Antiparos Island
Antiparos: The island lies to the southwest of Paros and is well known for its famous cave and the exquisite beaches. It is connected with Paros by small ferries from Pounda (10 min. journey) or by small boats from Parikia (journey 25 min.). The island, called Oliaros in antiquity had been inhabited since prehistoric times. On the small island of Saliagos ruins of the oldest known settlements in the Aegean (app. 4000 bc) were found. The only village is built on the northern shores of the island around the Venetian Castle. In the attractive village harbour there are fresh fish and fine home cooking. The most famous site of Antiparos, though, is the cave.
Antiparos is well organised in relation to the needs of the modern day tourist with all kinds of shops and a lively night-life, but also maintains the relaxed life style and the vivid Cycladic color.
